After staring a new process, user aborts page

I have multiple open processes which you can view in System Monitor.

Most of these are not open, the user exited out of the browser with out submitting or saving to draft.  Joget however still shows these as open.not_running.not_started in the system monitor under running processes.  In my view these should be closed/aborted under completed processes.  I now go in and manually remove these "open" processes where nothing is happening.

Is there something I'm missing in the set-up, or in my process design?  When the user generates an expense claim, a new process is spawned, but is never aborted if the user never submits.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
